Instructions for persons attending the live Zoom services

All of the High Holy Day services, except for Tashlich, will be available in real time via live Zoom.  Erev Rosh Hashanah will be a drive-in service, and will also be available from Zoom.  The remainder of the services will all be live Zoom services from the JCV sanctuary.

What will you see and hear?

The format that will be used by those of us hosting the Zoom service will be SPEAKER VIEW.  This means that whomever is talking will have their image on the screen.  Most of the time your screen will have the bimah (or portico for Erev Rosh Hashanah).  You will see and hear the rabbi and the cantor in action.  When honors are read in the sanctuary, you will see and hear the reader at the podium.  When honors are read from home, you will see and hear the readers from their computer or phone camera.

What should you do as an attendee?

In order to ensure that the Zoom experience is of the best quality possible, all of the persons attending services must put their computer or phone on MUTE and leave it there.  If your computer or phone is unmuted and you say something or there is any noise in your home, you will be treated as the speaker; and your sound and camera feed will be what everyone will see and hear instead of the rabbi and cantor.  This will be a very much unwanted disruption of the service.

What should you do if you have an honor from home?

If you are doing a reading or blessing from home, wait for the Rabbi to call on you, then: (1) unmute yourself, (2) say your reading or blessing, and (3) mute yourself again.

If everyone follows these simple rules, the services will be enjoyed by all.
